It is important for everyone who loves their hair to have a hair routine. We are going to be looking at 6 hair care tips for women to apply to their hair care routine. These 6 tips are simple and easy to integrate into any hair routine and these really do work.

Best skincare products on a budget

1 - wash your hair once every other day

wash hair

So let's start off with something that everyone does washing their hair. Some wash their hair every day, some wash every other day and some wash once a week. So which one is best? We recommend you wash your hair every other day with an SLS free shampoo. We discuss this in the next tip further. Washing hair every day even with just water can dry out the scalp which is an essential part of growing out healthy hair. A dry scalp will mean more oil production and a greasy scalp. Washing hair every other day also eliminates dirt, sweat & product build-up which occurs every day. Washing once a week will mean all the dirt, sweat  & product residue sit on the scalp which can eventually get deep in the pores clogging up hair follicles as well.

2 - Use a SLS free shampoo

shampoo

Switching to an SLS free shampoo will mean a less harsh wash for the scalp. Most shampoos contain something called sodium Laureth sulfate which can be found in detergents for washing clothes or dishes. Yes!! You heard right. Sodium Laureth sulfate attracts dirt and helps lather which feels good but it’s not so good for the scalp. An SLS free shampoo will help reduce the dry effect a shampoo has on the scalp. Using an SLS free shampoo can also help the scalp better balance oil production which can mean less greasy hair and a healthier scalp which will lead to healthier hair as well.

3 - Oil hair instead of conditioning

So conditioning is a vital part of hair health. Some may disagree because the scalp produces oils which have essential vitamins and minerals on a daily basis called sebum. This oil stays on the root of the hair but the tips of the hair stay dry this is why you may find you have dry hair tips. Many people condition with a conditioner of course. Conditioners have chemicals and silicones which are designed to cling on to hair giving your hair a shining effect. This is good because it gives you shiny hair, but a big but…. Is in the long term it clogs up the hair follicles. This is why we suggest you use natural essential oils such as Coconut oil, black seed, rosemary and olive oil. These oils do not attach to the hair and are great deep conditioners for hair. It can help strengthen hair & fight the cause of dandruff.

4 – Massage scalp daily before going to bed
massage scalp

Before going to bed massage your scalp. This stimulates blood flow and allows for essential nutrients needed for healthy hair growth to reach the scalp. A lack of blood flow to the scalp can in the long term cause dull dry hair & even hair loss. Also massaging the scalp has found to help break down something known as DHT, which is a key player in hair loss. Another reason to massage scalp is it helps lift dead skin and debris off the scalp this helps lead to a cleaner scalp which allows for hair growth.

5 – Use less heat
hair heat treatment

Using heat on the hair can dry the hair and damage the hair cuticles. Damaged hair cuticles make hair look physically dry and lifeless. If you do use a blow dryer use a low heat setting, if possible the cool setting. Some manufactures make blow dryers which dry’s hair at a temperature which minimizes hair damage. Also, a good tip is to pat dry hair with a towel before starting to blow dry. This reduces the amount of time you will need to use the blow dryer for considerably, further minimizing damage to hair.
